It all started back in 1994 when the Sippel kids; Melina, Brandon and Nathan; started selling their cookie dough door to door, and then expanded to school fundraisers. Sometime later, their parents, seeing the kids’ potential, opened up a business for them, TKB, “The Kids Business.” They have two locations in the desert, one in Indio that also serves as their distribution center selling their homemade baked goods to country clubs and grocery stores throughout Southern California and Arizona, and their location in Palm Desert off Varner Road. Now, let’s sink our teeth into their totally tantalizing sandwiches. There are so many from which to choose that it’s hard to decide. There’s the ever-so-messy The Spank, which incorporates hot roast beef, velvety melted pepper jack cheese, avocado and chipotle sauce served on focccia, the Sexy Italian, that has ham, salami, provolone, pesto spread and everything on an herb roll. Then there’s my favorite, the Chipotle Chicken sandwich. It marries spicy grilled chicken breast, melted cheese of your choice (I always get pepper jack) their chipotle sauce, all the extras and bread of your choice, and I’m telling you, their jalapeño bread is the way to go on this one. Plus so many other concoctions, including health-conscience salads, all seriously satisfying, prompting a feeling of excitement for the next visit to TKB. And if you’re pants button hasn’t popped off after all that, feed your sweet tooth with one of their many muffins, cakes, cookies and pies. With all of this tasty goodness, there is no doubt that the Sippel kids’ parents made a great investment opening up TKB for their kids, and we in the Coachella Valley sincerely thank you for making our slightly expanded waistline, all worthwhile.TKB is opened from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., M-F, in their Indio location, and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., M-F and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at their Palm Desert store. They also provide catering for parties and events, call (760) 345-2600 for more information. TKB Bakery & Deli
