Come On In, 2010!

By “The Palm Springs Local” Denise Ortuno Neil

I don’t know about you, but I had a blast on New Year’s Eve. I didn’t do anything all that spectacular, there were no fireworks (except the midnight kiss with my hubby) or big bands, but it wasn’t the venue that dazzled, but rather the company. All I needed was my husband and everything else was gravy, or was it vodka, I don’t care, all I know is that I had great time and even had a Blue Moon to gaze at to boot!

All of it made me ready to jump into the New Year and take whatever I’ve learned from 2009 and parlay it into infinite wisdom for 2010.

Now, there is no doubt that the past year has brought us world-changing events and situations. But I refuse to extend the overused media definition of our times as “Tough Times.” I prefer to say that these times have been challenging, and that at least gives us the realization that we can and will overcome them if we are up to the “challenge,” as I know that we all can be.

With that said, it is hard not to wonder what the this new year has in store for us and what we will be saying about this year, this time next year — get it? But to do that would be an exercise in futility, and I’m sure that we all have better things to do then wonder about our future opinion of a year that has barely started.

What I can do, however, is tell you what I have in store for you coming soon in “The Palm Springs Local.”

It’s going to be fun folks, or at least really informative. There will be extensive bar reviews from the not-so-mainstream go-at-your-own-risk kind of watering holes. I also have some “Serious Sandwich” places that are just too taste-bud tingly to keep to myself. I will also be sharing some juicy Palm Springs history that is NOT on any brochure. And there’s a whole lot more, that I will just have to surprise you with (be patient now)

So catch my column every Monday for an insight on “The Palm Springs Local,” and let’s all have a very Happy New Year!
