Gay Icon “OSCAR WILDE” the Hero of New Play Indio Performing Arts Center Indio, CA, March 7, 2010
The other night the play “WILDE PEOPLE” opened at Indio Performing Arts Center to rave reviews and much a claim. “WILDE PEOPLE,” an original play by Valerie-Jean (VJ) Hume, has made its debut locally at the Indio Performing Arts Center. It continues its presentation here through March 21st.
“Very exciting!” enthuses writer director VJ Hume. “The gay community needs heroes, and Oscar Wilde was one of the first. This show is about his wit, brilliance, and creativity—not about the angst or problems that so many writers have used as their themes. It’s FUN!” The production takes the form of a revue, with the acting done in the high style of Wilde’s theatre in the late 1800s. It uses the best lines and scenes of Wilde’s writing.”
“WILDE PEOPLE” is a celebration of the life and work of British playwright Oscar Wilde burst onto our local theatrical scene, with its World Premiere, here in the Coachella Valley. The show can be seen Saturday nights at 7:30 PM, or Sunday Matinees at 3:00. IPAC producer David Clinton-Reid has announced that ticket prices have been slashed, in accord with these economic times, to $15. for adults, and senior/student prices of $10.
The Indio Performing Arts Center is located at 45-175 Fargo Street, at the corner of Indio Boulevard, one block west of Jackson Street in Indio.
“The gay community has to support this play,” Hume says, “to send a message to theatrical producers that this kind of production is what they want, and will support!”
Tickets can be reserved at IPAC: (760) 775-5200

Don’t Miss WILDE PEOPLE
It is likely that you have heard of Oscar Wilde, but do you really know who Oscar Wilde is and how he has affected your life? No, Oscar Wilde was not the inventor of the hot dog, nor was he the leader of the Wilde Bunch... Wilde did however, invent or possibly better said, reinvent comedy in the theater.
