Tippi Hedren, star of Hitchcock movies “The Birds” and “Marnie” was at Melvyn’s at the Ingleside Inn in Palm Springs on Tuesday, April 6. Introducing Hedren was her publicist Harlan Boll who was also served as her interviewer for the evening. In his introduction, Boll said he looked for a single word to introduce Hedren. He found the perfect word, in Webster's Dictionary, “A woman of refined manner deserving of homage,” or in a single word “A Lady.” He was correct, this is a perfectly, succinct description of Tippi Hedren.

Indian Wells Tennis Garden Indian Wells, California
Story and photos by Pat Krause For more Pat Krause photos of the BNP Paribas Open, click here. The BNP Paribas Open Tournament was held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden near Palm Springs, California, from March 8 through 21. The top tennis players in the world competed at one of the greatest tennis stadiums in the world. Nearly 340,000 tennis fans came thru the gates, breaking all records again this year. It takes more than 1,000 volunteers to help put on the great event. The biggest matches are held in the main stadium.
There was a lot to see and do at this prestigious event. The Garden is just what the name implies — a garden. Beautiful flowers are all around the grounds. Tennis matches were held early in the tournament on all six main courts. The stadium court was in play during the entire tournament. The many practice courts were busy at all hours of the day. Fans stopped and watched their favorite player practicing and take photographs. This was a great opportunity to see the top players up close. Some fans waited at the exercise field to get and autographs. Food vendors were all around the grounds. Clothes, hats, sunglasses, water, tennis equipment and memorabilia were just a few of the many items for sale. There were several open areas to sit and eat, and a grassy area for sitting or lying down. It was not unusual to see some one taking a nap on the grass. Every day, there was something new. Bulova presented Tennis Talk with Bud Collins each day. Collins was given an award in the main stadium in between the men’s matches. There was entertainment on the stage in the food court each night. For those interested in getting autographs, there were scheduled sessions at the Tennis Warehouse or the Dell Booth. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see favorite players up close and get autographs. There was also a wheelchair tennis exhibition. If you have never seen one, they are extremely great tennis players and so exciting to watch. FILA, Trina Turk, Elizabeth & Prince and Mares for Men held a Trunk Show in the Garden Club Courtyard. There was a Tennis Ball Recycle Booth where people could take old tennis balls and get new ones. There was a handicap golf cart that helped those with a disability get from one area to the next.
It would be a good time to put it on your calendar for next year.
