Saturday, March 6, 2010Morongo Casino, Resort & Spa Sinbad stepped onstage like a lively host of his own living room. We were immediately captivated by his rather likeable persona and willingly surrendered ourselves to what would be a hilarious evening of interactive engagement, uncontrollable outbursts, unconventional counseling and surprising revelations. Sinbad’s comedic timing was almost supernatural as he posed random questions to a full house, making commentary on a myriad of topics such as plastic surgery, relationships, race, religion, politics — Tiger Woods and more!Regarding his view on Tiger Woods’ apology speech: “Tiger, play golf so I can bet!” His advice to a woman complaining about not being wined and dined: “If you want to be wined and dined, don’t put anything in the refrigerator.” Regarding his view on “time out”: “When I was growing up, time out was a headlock. How long was I out? 35 seconds.” Everyone, regardless of age, race or creed, seemed to be able to find themselves in what Sinbad was sharing — including me. Amidst my trying to experience the moment and jot down key thoughts, I found myself having to bend over in laughter on numerous occasions. Albeit a media pass, I had to put in some work in order to get a good seat. Sinbad’s words hit home: “You’d better get [to the show] on time. Black folks will take your seat like it’s theirs after 20 minutes.” Graciously, Earl and Coretta Estelle of Moreno Valley, a couple whose seats I initially warmed until their arrival, shared how they, “enjoyed Sinbad’s use of a lot of crowd interaction and how he didn’t use profanity.” A hardworking funnyman whose clean, family-friendly persona and animated antics have endeared him into the hearts of dedicated fans worldwide, Sinbad has worked tirelessly to rise to the top of the stand-up circuit, finding success in both television and film in addition to his popular stage act.
