The location selection of her star being in front of Sees Candy was a bit ironic and gained a momentum of hushed laughter from the crowd. But the whimsical spot did not take away from the significant occasion. Hollis’ long career spans more than 30 years, and she has been featured on "Oprah," "Sally Jesse Raphael" and CNN, just to scratch the surface. As a survivor of an eating disorder, she has dedicated her life to helping others with similar addictions. Palm Springs Mayor Pro Tem Rick Hutcheson was the first to speak at the event and presented a proclamation from the city on behalf of the mayor, city council and the people of Palm Springs, and deemed the day to be forever known as, "Dr. Judi Hollis Day."Jerry McDonald, Dr. Alan Berger, Tini McCarthy and Beverly Rubinstein were some of the other speakers who voiced a congratulatory message to Hollis. The director of the Palm Springs Walk of Stars, Kathleen Bennett, presented Hollis with her own miniature “Star” pin that she could wear, so she would always have it around her and as Bennett added, “No one will walk on this one.” Hollis took the stage and spoke briefly about the current movie “Precious” and how she could relate to the main character because she too was “fat” and had dreams, and now those dreams have come true. “I am very grateful for my professional life, but you guys have helped me be a person,” she said. She was noticeably moved by the day’s events and thanked all her family and friends for attending. Perhaps the See’s Candy location was apropos after all, for the occasion was filled with warmth and gratitude, oh how sweet it was!For more Cathy Jardine photos of the event, click here.
