Friday, February 19, 2010Fantasy Springs Resort Casino This year’s very chic event was held in the transformed Special Events Center at Fantasy Springs Resort in Indio, near Palm Springs, California. The tables and chairs were dressed in the elegantly festive motif of the day with gorgeous floral centerpieces setting the ambiance. It has been a tradition for women to wear their finest hats and luncheon fashions when attending. There were, in fact many, women wearing their hats and their luncheon finery, we have several photos to show off these lovely ladies. The stage had a runway elegantly added down the center of the room, which spread out into the classic inverted “T” shape. The lime-green and white runway was awash in lights with the name of the El Paseo clothier, “Troy,” owned by Rosemary Troy. Lourdes Chavez was the very talented and fresh, featured designer today. I could hardly wait for the show to begin.Ginger Jeffries, the morning weather forecaster from KESQ Channel 3, welcomed all in attendance. Jeffries gave a short overview of the services and support available to all, at the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center. She introduced Barbara Sinatra who came up to the podium and presented a special gift to Linsk for her years of chairing and producing these fabulous luncheon/fashion shows that are the topic of conversations around the valley for several months following each elegant event. Sinatra also thanked the sponsors, Starkey Hearing Foundation, Brown Forman-Jack Daniel’s, Dicker & Dicker of Beverly Hills, Fantasy Springs Resort and the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians for their support. All attendees were served a beautifully plated luncheon beginning with an elegant bouquet of arugula and spoon leaf spinach followed with the main course plate of pesto gilled chicken and crab-roasted salmon, finished off with a beautiful dessert of white chocolate-ricotta cheesecake garnished with fresh raspberries, toasted almond and amaretto sabayon. What a delectable meal to complement this exciting event. Lourdes Chavez had the first debut of her collection in 1999 at the House of Trevia. “Troy” of El Paseo carries this collection and is responsible for bringing Lourdes Chavez to our attention at this event. The music started, and several models beautifully showcased the classic yet visionary fashions of Lourdes Chavez Couture. There were sheath dresses paired with tunic-length coats, two-piece skirts and shells, and pants with shells topped with either jackets or coats. The colors and textures were very classic and lush. There were costumes in red and white, vibrant greens paired with white, lush tropical patterns, textural bouclé, cocktail dresses, evening costumes and dreamy feminine formal gowns in satins and chiffons, netted crochet overlays, bows and flounces and so very much more. Lourdes Chavez is definitely a designer to watch. At the end of the fashion show, Linsk and Sinatra came to the podium to thank Chavez, who received a beautiful bouquet and a standing ovation from this enthralled audience. Sinatra presented Linsk with the first Children’s Choice Award for her many years of organizing the Invitational Luncheon so masterfully. Sinatra then introduced none other than Robert Wagner, her co-chair of this year’s Frank Sinatra Starkey Hearing Foundation Celebrity Invitational. Sinatra also had Wagner’s beautiful wife, Jill St. John stand and be acknowledged. The room was abuzz with excited chatter and gigglesWhat a most elegant and superbly enjoyable event. Brava to Nelda. This luncheon was truly spectacular. Thank you to our community visionary Barbara Sinatra and orgtanizer Nelda Linsk along with their excellent and friendly staff, Fantasy Springs Resort and their-well trained staff, the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, the Starkey Hearing Foundation and Brown Forman-Jack Daniels for helping make this exciting event possible.
