With the summer only half over, there are many more hot days to come. Maybe your children are complaining, “It’s too hot!” They want to cool off. Of course, you can have a pool constructed in the backyard, or you can do what many other parents do- take your children to Cathedral City’s Fountain of Life and let them play in the cooling desert waters.

On Sunday, April 11, my sister and I decided to venture to the public sale that was being held downtown Palm Springs at the residence formerly owned by Liberace. Although we knew Liberace’s possessions are now housed in a museum in Las Vegas, we couldn’t resist the urge to traipse through the flamboyant entertainer’s Palm Springs home and maybe find a bargain or two.

Palm Springs/Cathedral City, California Story and photos by Jace Edwards For more Jace Edwards photos of this trek, click here. I set out to write an article about perceptions. I had planned on a series of hikes, each a variation of the others. Whether in reverse or parallel, I trekked my way into breathtaking vistas and canyon scenes. I had utilized the same trailhead but different portions of trails for many weeks. Joshua Tree National Park Joshua Tree, California
Story by Jace Edwards
Photos by Jace Edwards, Cara Pitzer and Kelly Crossett For more photos of Joshua Tree National Park, click here. As I search the desert for adventures and trails, I look north of the Coachella Valley to the skyline created by the Little San Bernardino Mountains. Beyond that skyline are days of hiking, exploring and adventuring just waiting to be discovered. Some parts were recently covered with a light dusting of snow, a direct contrast to the desert floor to which we are accustomed. It is an affordable journey that awaits — will you heed its call?
