Joshua Tree National Park Joshua Tree, California
Story by Jace Edwards
Photos by Jace Edwards, Cara Pitzer and Kelly Crossett For more photos of Joshua Tree National Park, click here. As I search the desert for adventures and trails, I look north of the Coachella Valley to the skyline created by the Little San Bernardino Mountains. Beyond that skyline are days of hiking, exploring and adventuring just waiting to be discovered. Some parts were recently covered with a light dusting of snow, a direct contrast to the desert floor to which we are accustomed. It is an affordable journey that awaits — will you heed its call?

PGA WEST La Quinta, California Story and photos by Pat Krause To see more Pat Krause photos of Bob Hope Square, click here. The Bob Hope Classic had something new this year. They put up an area called the Bob Hope Square. Normally the fans walk through the tent with Hope Memorabilia to get to the field at PGA West. One year, they put up a tent just with Bob Hope items, such as a small museum. I would like to see that return next year to the venue. Hope Square is a large area just behind the Driving Range at PGA West.
Vendor tents were set up with food, drinks and music. Other vendors included a Longest Drive contest where golfers could try to hit the ball as far as they could in the hitting area to win a prize and golf balls. The First Tee sponsors free golf for kids in the area. They held a putting contest with prizes. The putting green was erected in the shape of the Bob Hope Face logo by Back Nine Greens and was a hit with people as they walked by. Music was provided all day. Sofas provided by Back Nine Greens were a good place to sit and watch. Tables were placed all over the area for people to sit and eat or drink. Many fans just took a rest from walking the course. Others just sat and listened to the music. Barbecue, pizza and sandwiches were just some of the foods available in the Square. Other food and drink vendors were in front of the Club House at PGA West, but there was no seating.
This new and novel idea was well received by everyone attending. I think it will be bigger and even better next year.

Hope Classic Wednesday Tee Off
Wednesday, January 20, 2010 Celebrity Field at SilverRock Resort La Quinta, California
Story and photos by Pat Krause
For more Pat Krause of the Bob Hope Classic Opening, click here.
Wednesday, Jan . 20, the Bob Hope Classic started out without rain at the Celebrity Field at SilverRock Resort in La Quinta near Palm Springs, Calif. Tuesday was a practice day, but it rained hard. The celebrities and amateurs along with the pros were hoping they could get through Wednesday with out getting wet. The morning was cool but dry, however as the day progressed the wind grew cold. If you hadn’t brought along a warm jacket or wind pants, you would get pretty cool. Many of the fans that braved the weather on Wednesday afternoon wore hooded sweatshirts or heavy jackets. I even saw gloves on a few ladies later in the day.
