The Spa Resort Casino in Palm Springs, Calif., celebrated 50 years of the good life on Thursday, Jan. 21. The 50th anniversary event “Sparty” was held at the Spa in the Hotel portion of the Resort. Guests were invited to enjoy ’60s cocktails, a buffet of hors d’oeuvres and ’60s music. Invited guests were also given minispa treatments. Neck and head massages as well as foot massages were a delight. A hand treatment with special scrubs were good for the skin. A manicurist painted a fingernail of each guest so show how it is done and how it looks after.  A seating room was in the buffet area for guests to just sit and mingle. Tours were given in all areas of the spa from the hot bath tubs to the steam room, inhalation rooms, massage beds and the facial area. There is even a tranquility room where the neck massages were conducted. Women were even allowed into the men’s spa for the tour. That was also where to find the coffee and desserts. It was a special evening for all who attended. Touring such a large facility was enlightening. Many staff members were on hand to greet the guests and answer questions. While seated in the main room, we had a chance to talk about the hot mineral waters that flow into the bath area. The water is heated by the magma deep inside the earth. The mineral content of the water is different in most places. Desert Hot Springs also has hot mineral waters, but it is different what comes into the Spa.Fifty years ago, this was just a small community. People came from all over to bathe in the healing mineral waters. To this day, some still find relief for many health problems by bathing in the waters.  Of course we all like to be treated to a day at a spa. It is uplifting and relaxing. The Spa is running specials for the 50th anniversary.
